Facelifts have come a long way from past generations into a safe, predictable method to rejuvinate the face, without the severe, pulled, done look of past procedures.

Variations on the face lift

This is usually performed on the younger patient, when the neck or brow does not need to be done. Incisions usually begin above the hairline at the temples, then extend in a natural line in front of the ear, and continue behind the earlobe to the lower scalp. In general the surgeon will separate the skin from the fat and muscle below. The fat will then be trimmed (or in some cases suctioned from around the neck and chin to give more definition), the surgeon will then tighten the underlying muscles and put the skin back and remove any excess. Sutures will then secure the layers of tissue and the surgeon will close the incisions Sometimes metal clips or staples will be used on the scalp area. The surgeon will then wrap your head in gauze bandages to keep swelling and bruising to a minimum.
